Toffee Brownies by Paula Deen

Don’t you just love it when you find a recipe that just works?!?  Paula has a pretty great track record with me; most of her recipes come out great and I was confident that this one would work as well.   This recipe caught my eye because it was simple (store bought brownie mix) and it was fast!

I adapted Paula Dean’s toffee brownies slightly.  I couldn’t find the 17.6 oz brownie mix with walnuts and the 6 oz Symphony chocolate bars.  So I had to make due with what I could find:

  • 1 package of Betty Crocker Fudge Brownies 18.3 oz
  • 3 Symphony bars (4.25 oz)
  • 1 cup of chopped walnuts
  • Cooking spray

1) Prepare brownie mix according to instructions on the box.  Add chopped walnuts

2) Line the 13×9 pan with foil and spray non stick cooking spray

3) Put half of the mixture in the  pan

4) Unwrap and place the 3 chocolate bars on top

5) Cover with remaining batter.  Yes, you’ll be able to see the bars outlined.

6) Bake!  Cool COMPLETELY! Cut into bars.  Makes 24 pcs.

These are incredibly rich and chocolatey!  They won’t rise too much in the oven, perhaps the chocolate bars weigh it down?  Have a glass a of milk and enjoy!
